Eye Laser FAQs

Find answers to the most common questions patients have about eye laser treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How successful is eye laser correction?

Due to great improvements in the field of laser vision correction, the visual outcomes can be predetermined with great precision, especially in FemtoLasik. Therefore we can achieve excellent results. The results are permanent and future deterioration is rare. Deterioration of the eyesight can occur due to other reasons such as pregnancy, progressive myopia and other diseases of the eye that are not related to the laser correction such as cataracts and age macular retinal degeneration.

How much does laser treatment cost?

How do you ensure safety before surgery?

Safety features are important and our machines are backed up by technical online support, system alerts and energy tests before procedures. Patients will be asked questions about your health status during various stages that lead to your surgery day.

On the day of the surgery, patients will be asked to identify themselves many times. This is in line with the latest World Health Organisation and Royal College of Ophthalmologists recommendation for safety in the operating theatre.

Is the procedure painful?

We anesthetize your eyes with eye drops before the laser vision correction, so there is no pain during the surgery. Patients will feel no pain after FemtoLasik, SMILE and Presbyond treatment.

For 2-5 days after the surface  ablation treatment (PRK) days mild pain, tingling, sensitivity to light may occur. Excessive tears and sensation of foreign body may also be present together with inability to open the eyes. These symptoms can be relieved with analgesic tablets and eye drops.

Is it possible for my eyes to deteriorate after treatment?

In rare cases, the vision may deteriorate due to abnormal wound healing (in PRK). Should this occur, a change of medication is done and if that does not work, re-treatment might be necessary.

What happens when I get older?

After the age of 40–45, the lens of the eye loses its elasticity and reading glasses will be necessary. People over 40 with low level myopia should consider presbyond blended vision correction or refractive lens exchange, so that they can read without glasses in older age. In some occasions, the need for reading glasses might still arise.

If the vision deteriorates, is it possible to repeat the surgery?

In general, yes, re-treatment is possible, but it depends on the thickness of the cornea, and the degree of the treated diopters.

When will I see clearly?

Postoperative visual acuity depends on the type of surgery. It takes 1 to 4 weeks in the case of surface ablation treatment (PRK), and one day for SMILE and FemtoLasik. For Presbyond, it might take a bit longer for the eyes to adjust to the blended vision.

Will both of my eyes be operated at the same time?

In both types of laser vision correction, flap or surface, both eyes are operated at the same time.

Can I give birth naturally after the surgery?

Yes, the laser treatment does not affect the way of delivery.
